Do you ever get this feeling that South Africans WANT the conflict to come? That we stayed glued to the news for more than just election results, but to hear if there was violence or riots at this and that station. That someone was killed for voting for the “wrong” party. That there is yet another “Crisis” in the warped hope that it really is a crisis.
News reporters seem to have a subtext they are dying to be reporting one – one that just isn’t coming.
Sometimes, I get the feeling that South Africans wished there was some form of physical play-out to all the anger & frustration of decades. That it wasn’t just passive aggressive, fast bad driving, swearing at people as soon as a service wasn’t properly delivered, and verbally attacking some “rude” remark that was made on a chat show or in a virtual chat room.
We’d all deny it. But on days like this one, I sometimes feel that South Africans (journos mainly) want to be more like the African countries to the North. And to wish the violent chaos on us…
...or maybe I'm just having a passive-aggressive day....

There is a lot of truth in what you said. I for one am glad nothing like that happened.
Me too! I'm not a lover of violence and sensationalism. Give me subtlety and complexity!
