Hallelujah

Love is not some kind of victory march. It's a cold and it's a very broken Hallelujah

“You know what the problem is [Well, I didn’t really realise there was a problem, but carry on…], is that there are no more songs written about men’s emotions on love!”

Explain….

“It’s not all the soppy stuff. It’s rough and hard and dirty”.

Oh, like Leonard Cohen singing about her giving him head on the unmade bed in the Chelsea Hotel?

“Exactly! Or Bruce Springsteen or [I forgot the other examples. Radiohead perhaps?]…”

Ha ha! You guys have James Blunt these days!

"NO! See, that’s exactly it. He is singing what women want to hear. That stuff is shit. You never hear it from how we feel it or see it..."

I want you to notice, when I'm not around. You're so fucking special, I wish I was special. But I'm a creep

"...It is all now about playing on women’s emotions”.

I don’t know. I love how Leonard puts it:
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breathe we drew was Hallelujah

When I come across a forgotten self-made CD of a brother, ex-digsmate or a guy friend, I sometimes get close to understanding this. These traumatising lyrics. That still work. The choice of songs. Sad but uplifting but pained but in a good way... I don't know, I don't know how to explain it. I don't think I am meant to.

She'll look at you and smile, And her eyes will say, She's got a secret garden, Where everything you want, Where everything you need, Will always stay, A million miles away

As a woman, perhaps I will never really be able to comprehend. As a woman, I don’t think I’m meant to 'get it'. Not that I get James Blunt either.

I don't mean to suggest that I loved you the best, I can't keep track of each fallen robin. I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel, that's all, I don't even think of you that often

Lionel Richie.

Argh. He is like Mr Blunt's mentor! I think. I actually cannot think of a single song of his right now.

I also had to chuckle at the coincidence of themes on our 2 blogs today.

And anyway... Mr L. Cohen is SO MUCH more sexier than Mr Richie!

OK if you want contemporary: "Mr Brightside" by the Killers.

Love and jealousy all in one. It's a real corker.

What number is that on the Killer's album? I've got both (are there more) but one's without track names.

And then I'll have to ask the male judge. I asked him about a few songs, and apparently I just don't completely "get it". This male emotion music.

You just have to cast your net a little wider Champs:

What about Grinderman - No Pussy Blues? ;)

Or simply pick a couple of songs from The Parlotones - you'll find some gems there.

with a big fat smile coz I’m in denial skip skip heart attack oh my god look at that she’s found another lair, cigarette burns now its romance turn, no one gave me warning that this love thing hurts

or

I’m an old romantic sitting here clutching my bleeding heart, if I’m not good enough then I’ve had enough let’s make this fast,
who cares I’ll find my fish

Personally, I think you should dump Lionel and The Blunt and go with the fantastic Pop! Goes my heart by Hugh Grant - 80s yet contemporary.

There's something in the way you move, I can't deny,
Every word from your lips is a lullaby.

Give me a bit of Bazza White any day.

Ag, Champers. I know what you mean. Does it ever make sense?

but it's one of the reasons I've always loved rock ballads more than Treffers. It's not barbie fluff love.

Shaun - yeah, my music knowledge is beyond shocking so I jus gotta stick to the guys I know & have loved sinces I was a traumatised teen. Gotta laugh at your first song mention! :)

Dolce - yeah, I think I am more for the "pained" stuff than the fluff bounce. Well. Except when roadtripping.

If I ever make sense of it all... I will be most certain to publicise it loudly!!

Ok, have one gorgeous weekend! I am off to drink today's "bombshell" away in a convention centre's worth of wine!

Love doesn't make sense. None of it is rational. or easy.

Guy love songs - early Bon Jovi, before they got all happy. Or why not try early Fall Out Boy (Take this to your grave)
Blue October, Motion City Soundtrack, Boy Hits Car.

Google and listen. All of them have love songs by guys about girls.

For example:
I'll take this broken heart/ fuck it up so it'll never beat again/ not just for me but for anyone...
