Personally, I'd rather watch porn

I have a headache. For so many reasons. And I don’t think the quick evening glass of cheap Italian wine has anything to do with it.

I blame heat, some men, popcorn, and working too hard. Luckily I get to chug about rural KwaZulu Natal next week in the name of work, and catch a break. …except for that whole “Be On Alert. There is a Serial Killer Running About Southern KZN” aspect.

So this morning, while suiping down my yogurt and muesli, I got to watch people die.

We are punted the idea by the “Western Propagandists” that people in certain Muslim states are sick sick (sub-)humans, because occasionally they all traipse off to the local stadium and watch executions by hanging. Yet…

This morning, on CNN International, the journos were doing a piece on some great new spy plane used in Iraq. They took several moments of build up. They showed the Iraqi man outside his car, playing with explosives. Then they cut to a few minutes later, of the man now in his car, apparently accompanied by a second unseen man.

The whole time, a little target cross followed the man, then the car. Hovering and ready to fire …. “This might look like a video game, but it’s not. This is very real” narrated the newsreader … The car was cruising along some street. As it was passed by another car, we had some army guy explain, as the cross continued to hover midscreen, that they could not fire on it just yet… We don’t want to harm other people.

Then CNN broadcast the car being fired upon and the two men being killed. Two humans were blown to smithereens. Families lost members. People were killed by other people and it was broadcast around the breakfast-enjoying globe. But hey, they’re Iraqis… Iraqi people are sub-humans, who are geographically-related to people who go to stadiums to watch the executions of other humans…

Us viewers never saw the men. Like in a video game, the men were too far away and too hazy to have identifiable lives.

Two Iraqi men murdered in the name of a meaningless war.

Does anyone in the West give a fuck.

Other than how it added a great edge to a morning news report.

......and outside our windows life just rolls on. Commuters board trains to go to their offices, stock exchanges make or break billionaires, farmers plant new seed, municipality workers fill in potholes, fresh army recruits face the dawn of their first parade, dew drops off a blade of grass, the sun rises as a glowing round blur behind a billowing haze of early morning pollution, paramedics attend a carcrash victim on the N1, radio DJs brightly introduce the new hit single, a newborn baby yells out its arrival into a stinking, cruel and unfair unjust world, birds chirrup in the jacaranda trees, early morning traffic grinds to a halt while AIDS casually reaches out unabated and kills more people.

Life goes on.
